Siguiendo la estela de Planeta Azul estrenado en 2001, BBC Earth nos presenta un increíble y actualizado retrato del desconocido mundo marino, justo cuando se hace esencial tomar consciencia del momento crítico de los ecosistemas oceánicos. Planeta Azul II cuenta con Sir David Attenborough como narrador y la banda sonora de la serie ha sido compuesta por el ganador de un Oscar, Hans Zimmer. Además la banda británica Radiohead ha colaborado con el compositor alemán con una nueva versión de su canción Bloom.
